Iredell-Statesville board rejects adding member comments, approves agenda and enters closed session

The Iredell-Statesville Schools Board of Education on the evening’s agenda voted down a motion to add a standing “board member comments” item, approved the meeting agenda and then recessed into a closed session citing student matters, attorney-client matters and personnel.

The board voted 2–4 to reject the motion to add board-member comments to the agenda; the motion therefore failed. The board subsequently approved the agenda by voice vote (4 yeas, 2 nays). Later the board voted 7–0 to enter closed session under North Carolina law to discuss student, attorney‑client and personnel items. After returning from closed session the board adjourned by unanimous voice vote.

Board members and staff said the personnel report would be discussed further in closed session and formally approved at the next public meeting rather than being presented in detail to the public tonight. No personnel approvals were reported in open session.

The motions and votes were handled during the meeting’s opening business. Ms. Trent moved the board into closed session under North Carolina General Statutes §143‑318.11; the motion carried 7–0. A motion earlier to add board member comments was made and seconded on the floor but failed on the voice tally. The meeting ended after a unanimous motion to adjourn.

Minutes and any formal documentation of personnel actions will be recorded in the board’s official minutes; the board indicated personnel items would follow the district’s closed‑session procedures.
