Middle-school Builders Club students tell board the club builds belonging through service

Students and advisors from Lake Norman Charter’s Builders Club told the board the club fosters belonging and community service and described recent activities.
Lori Gilbert, a Builders Club advisor, introduced student speakers. Eighth‑grader Ayushi said Builders Club “makes everyone feel like they are part of our family” and described writing letters to veterans as a memorable project. Eighth‑grader Yavi Kumar said the club helps members “lead, learn, and serve” and cited projects such as assembling supplies for animal shelters and donating toys to Cool Kids Clubhouse.
Students said Builders Club meets monthly for about an hour, uses a Color Team system to mix grades and encourage cross‑grade collaboration, and runs field trips and service activities. Advisors and parents thanked the students and the volunteer advisors for their work.
The board commended the students and asked for an estimate of participation; students estimated roughly 150 participants across grades.
