Garza said the contract is separate from an existing agreement the city has for subdivision review, noting the new month-to-month agreement clarifies additional daily operations the city needs during the transition. He said the city attorney and the firm had reviewed and approved the contract language.
Commissioner Rodriguez moved to approve the contract; Commissioner Garcia seconded. The motion carried, with commissioners voting in favor by voice vote.
The mayor and staff said all communications with the firm during the contract will be coordinated through the city manager's office and that Rebecca (staff) and Joe Pedraza would help direct the department during the transition. The firm representatives present said Sigler, Winston & Greenwood have local knowledge of Weslaco and that the arrangement should provide continuity for daily engineering operations such as ditch widening, permit reviews and project verification.
The contract amount and the five-day termination provision were cited during the discussion as features intended to keep the arrangement flexible while the city hires a permanent engineer. No additional compensation or contract number was specified in the meeting transcript.
