Fire and public-works officials briefed the commission that crews continue to repair critical infrastructure, including a lift station damaged during the storm. Officials asked for the extension to preserve the city’s ability to request state and federal assistance and to maintain operational flexibility while crews finish repairs.
The city said Governor Abbott had been asked to request federal assistance and that the region may meet thresholds for individual assistance. City staff also said they are coordinating with FEMA and the Small Business Administration to use West School as a hub for individual assistance and small-business recovery programs once federal teams deploy to the Rio Grande Valley.
The commission approved a two-week extension by motion. Staff said they will return if additional time is needed.
