The Tunica County Board of Supervisors approved a bundle of routine and administrative items Thursday, including hires, equipment transfers, project advertising, and several appropriations.
Among the approvals, the board: accepted the jail meal log; approved seasonal and part-time hires for parks and recreation and the tax assessors office; authorized advertising for a bridge project on Old 61 while county staff completes one remaining right-of-way acquisition; approved road-and-bridge supplies purchases totaling $200,800; and authorized multiple equipment transfers (including four four-seat golf carts to Tunica River Park and a zero-turn mower to the sheriffs office). The board also voted to sell four dump trucks via auction and to advertise to purchase replacement dump units.
Board members approved a promotion and salary alignment for a road foreman and accepted a competitive/noncompetitive solid-waste grant (covered separately). The board approved an advance appropriation of $15,000 to the Tunica Airport Commission for the FY 2024 audit and granted a Freeport warehouse tax exemption application from Greenpoint Ag Tunica. Supervisors also adopted a resolution authorizing a Tunica County amnesty day in June 2025 for justice-court matters.
A notable contract payment on the agenda was payment number two to Johnson Controls Inc. for the countys energy-efficiency project. The board approved Payment No. 2 in the amount of $1,000,411. The countys representative said the total financed amount for the energy-efficiency project is about $9 million; the board approved the invoiced payment as presented.
Other routine financial and administrative approvals included a transfer between the general fund and the emergency road-and-bridge fund for $4,696.25, inventory deletions for circuit court items, and appointments and salary settings for several court offices as submitted by Chancellor Willie Perkins. Most motions were approved by voice vote recorded at the meeting as "All in favor? Aye. Opposed? Motion carried."
