Council approved a pilot purchase of signs and lighting from Tolar Manufacturing (project total $68,006.13 including 10% contingency) to test durability and usefulness at six stops in the Gardena jurisdiction.
Separately, the council approved purchase of steel mounting kits (43 kits for 38 buses plus five spares) from Mission Steel Fabrication for $57,018 with a 10% contingency for a project total near $62,720 to extend glass enclosures to the windshield area on existing ENC CNG buses. GTrans staff said Metro supplied designs and vendor lists to ensure fit and quick delivery; the pilot site selection will prioritize high-ridership stops and darker locations for lighting. Council members asked about color and vandal-resistance; staff said the pilot will test durability and customer feedback and that the city will consider design and advertising options if pilot results are favorable.
