A third-party audit by MSW Consultants covering Waste Resources of Gardena’s (WRG) service from July 2022 through December 2023 found WRG compliant with contract terms. Staff presented the audit to council on May 13 and recommended the council receive and file the report. The audit reviewed billing accuracy, fee payments to the city, tonnage reporting, complaint logs, compliance with commercial recycling/organics requirements (SB 1383 and related statutes), vehicle age and fuel type; auditors found no findings.
Staff and Director Rigg praised WRG for meeting contract obligations, including transitioning route vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG) and achieving diversion goals. Council members noted prompt complaint response times and clean vehicles; the contract requires newer vehicles and CNG operation as part of long-term service terms.
