South Jordan Arts Council reviews 2024 activities and previews 2025 programs

The South Jordan Arts Council gave the City Council an annual update on Feb. 18, summarizing its 2024 programs and previewing 2025 events. Laura Gaillard, the Arts Council chair, presented highlights that included theater productions, public art installations, contests and ongoing community classes.
Gaillard said the council’s 2024 theater season included a summer production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and a fall production of Blithe Spirit; the fall run required added performances to meet demand. The council sponsored a series of contests and shows (Summerfest poster, art show, quilt show, chalk-art festival, plein-air contest and a gingerbread contest), and installed public art across the city: five murals at parks, seven panels under the Jordan River Trail overpass, updates to the Town Center Drive crosswalk, three utility-box wraps using artwork from the 2024 art show, and seasonal carving displays at city events.
New or expanded 2025 items noted by Gaillard include the Art Swap Gala, a Dowdle van wrap project that traveled to events, an online photo contest, and a change to the May schedule: Art on the Town will shift to “Art in the Park,” occurring four Saturdays in May at Bingham Creek County Park with vendor markets and a children’s market. Gaillard said the Arts Council has a committee working on a permanent public art commission for the new track station near the stadium; the council hopes to choose an installation schedule separate from the stadium’s grand opening.
The Arts Council also announced theater auditions and plans: the 2025 musical will be Annie, with auditions scheduled March 5. Gaillard thanked the City Council for ongoing support and invited the council to community events and gallery displays at City Hall and The Gale Museum.
Ending: Council members praised the programming, called the track-station art exciting and asked staff to notify the council when installation and unveiling dates are firm.
