The Millcreek City Council at its Feb. 24 work meeting directed staff to prepare two resolutions regarding board representation and received a treasury update showing the city’s current cash position and record sales tax receipts.
Mayor (unnamed) read a letter from the South Salt Lake Valley Mosquito Abatement District noting that Sylvia Catton’s term as Millcreek’s representative expired on Dec. 31, 2024, and that the district requests her reappointment; the mayor asked John Grama to prepare a resolution to reappoint Catton for the council’s next meeting. The mayor also said he has discussed relinquishing his seat on the UFA board to Council member Jackson and asked staff to prepare a resolution appointing Jackson; the mayor said he will continue to support the transition during the budget season.
The city treasurer (identified in meeting as Mike) reported shared cash of $40,405,074, comprised of $1,303,024 in the operating account and $39,102,050 in the state treasury fund. The treasurer reported the city had collected 93.59% of estimated property taxes ($11,148,106), general sales tax receipts of $6,317,708 so far in the year, building-permit revenue at 70% of estimate ($875,529), and total general fund revenue of $25,456,183. January expenditures included 156 checks totaling $2,837,957, 11 bank drafts totaling $230,748, and two payroll periods totaling $354,890. Staff noted that December’s sales tax distribution — received with the normal reporting lag — set a record at more than $1,400,000 for the month.
At the close of the work meeting councilmembers moved to adjourn. A motion to adjourn was moved and seconded; the mayor called the question, all in favor were recorded and Council member Dave Easton vocalized “aye.” The chair declared the meeting adjourned and said the council would return at 7 p.m. for the regular meeting.
