Summary
At its March 13 meeting the Millcreek City Historic Preservation Commission elected Ryan Lufkin chair and Peter Britton vice chair, approved February minutes and heard staff say a recommended appointee for a vacancy will be forwarded to City Council for confirmation.
The Millcreek City Historic Preservation Commission elected Commissioner Ryan Lufkin as chair and Commissioner Peter Britton as vice chair and approved minutes from its Feb. 13 meeting during its March 13 session.
The commission’s new leadership was chosen by voice vote after members nominated Lufkin and Britton. A commissioner nominated Lufkin “I nominate that Commissioner Lufkin be the chairperson of the committee,” and members answered “Aye” to approve the choice. After a separate nomination and a second for Britton, members again voted unanimously in favor. The commission then approved the Feb. 13 meeting minutes by consensus.
The outcome matters because the chair and vice chair will steer monthly agendas and represent the commission in conversations with city staff and the City Council. Staff also told the commission that a candidate selected to fill an open seat — Melissa Coy — has been recommended for appointment and that the recommendation must still go to City Council for confirmation. Staff said the recommendation will be forwarded to City Council and mentioned a forthcoming council meeting date but did not specify a final calendar action at the time of the commission meeting.
During the meeting staff noted there is an open seat caused by Commissioner Enos’s resignation and that the city received a competitive pool of applicants for the vacancy. The staff representative said, “the applicant Melissa Coy is the one that we've selected,” and that the city’s nomination process will continue through the mayor’s and council’s review.
No ordinances, permits or formal council-level actions were decided at the commission meeting; the appointments and minutes approval are internal commission actions that will be followed by the city’s normal confirmation process if the council accepts the nomination.
The meeting adjourned after routine business and staff updates.
