Salisbury names Audrea Bridges deputy police chief

Salisbury City Council heard a brief introduction May 6 of Audrea Bridges, who will join the Salisbury Police Department this month as deputy chief.
City Manager Jim Green invited Police Chief Smith to introduce the hire at the start of the meeting. Chief Smith said Bridges will work alongside the department's outgoing deputy chief through a transition and described her as a leader with nearly three decades of experience, including time with the State Bureau of Investigation and advanced training at the FBI National Academy. "She brings the kind of leadership that inspires people," Chief Smith said.
The city manager and chief noted Bridges' academic background, including degrees from North Carolina State University and Pfeiffer University, and national leadership trainings. Bridges spoke briefly at the meeting, saying she was "grateful and humbled and honored" to join the department.
The council did not take a formal vote as part of the introduction; the presentation was a ceremonial personnel announcement and part of the meeting's opening remarks.
Bridges' arrival comes as Deputy Chief Stollins (identified as retiring) prepares to leave his post in mid-June; the chief said Stollins' last working day will be June 14. The council did not discuss future staffing changes or budget adjustments during the presentation.
