The Weld County Board of Commissioners on April 30 read and signed a proclamation declaring May 2025 as Myositis Awareness Month.
Jim Malani, an advocate living with inclusion-body myositis, told the board the proclamation “is a step towards greater understanding, earlier diagnoses, and better support.” Two other people living with inclusion-body myositis described progressive muscle loss and daily challenges such as fatigue, falls and difficulty breathing; Bruce Van Allen estimated the disease affects roughly 15 people per million.
Commissioners thanked the advocates for attending and said the proclamation could help raise awareness and prompt people to seek diagnosis and support.
The proclamation was signed by all five commissioners; attendees posed for photos with board members after the reading.
