Weld County commissioners approve bids, contracts and routine business; motor grader purchase totals $1.97 million

The Weld County Board of County Commissioners on April 7 approved a slate of routine and contract items including a jail door replacement bid, an equipment purchase for public works, an insurance contract for unmanned aircraft systems, multiple temporary road closures, surplus property declarations and several appointments.
The board awarded bid B2500026 to TCC Corporation for replacement of the Jail 1 West sally port door at a total low bid of $49,995. Toby Taylor of Purchasing presented the item and confirmed the low bid met specifications.
Fleet Services recommended purchase of five new 2025 Caterpillar motor graders under the Sourcewell cooperative contract (011723-CAT). Fleet presented two units with 17.5-25 tires for $790,610 and three units with 14R24 tires for $1,176,450 for a combined total of $1,967,060; the board approved the purchase under Weld County Code section 5-4 and related cooperative-purchasing exemptions.
Human Resources presented contract ID 9240 with Global Aerospace for hull and liability insurance covering unmanned aircraft systems (drones) for March 2025–March 2026 at a premium of $16,361; the board authorized signature to bind the policy.
The North American Model Boating Association (NAMBA) District 20 was authorized to use the Southwest Service Center pond on weekends during the 2025 season under contract ID 9243, and the board approved a PCL Construction Services professional-services contract for a Weld County Judicial Center site-selection study.
The board accepted a deed of dedication from Loveland Ready Mixed Concrete Inc. to allow acquisition of right of way for a planned roundabout at County Roads 54 and 13, and approved multiple temporary road closures requested by Public Works for construction and irrigation culvert work: County Road 72 (extended through April 25, 2025), County Road 27/Denver Avenue (April 7–23, 2025) and County Road 49 (March 31–April 4, 2025). Detours were described as paved or a mix of paved and gravel.
The county controller presented year-end surplus and disposal items for vehicles, equipment and building improvements; the board declared the listed items surplus and authorized disposal or auction. Rusty Williams explained items were part of a year-end cleanup into Workday.
Appointments and reappointments cleared the consent calendar: Aaron Fink was appointed to the Workforce Development Board; Jay Pier, John Duesing and Scott Dia were reappointed to the Building Trades Advisory Committee in their respective representative roles.
Votes were taken by voice for most items and were approved; consent and warrant approvals were recorded as unanimous. The board also approved minutes from the March 10, 2025 meeting.
