Council hears that long-running marijuana litigation is resolved after settlements, court dismissals

Schroeder said the Michigan Supreme Court action was dismissed and the circuit court case was also dismissed after council actions and negotiated agreements. "I am pleased to report that after recent actions of the city council related to the ordinance the city is now out of litigation for the first time in 5 and a half years," Schroeder said. He thanked city staff and outside counsel and noted the litigation had generated legal fees exceeding $1 million.
Council members commended staff for resolving protracted disputes and noted enforcement and regulatory oversight remain important as the city continues to permit and regulate marijuana businesses. The council received and filed the update; no new litigation actions were initiated at the meeting.
Ending: Council asked the administration to continue coordination with litigation counsel and to ensure regulatory compliance steps remain in place for licensed marijuana facilities.
