Urbana approves $83,372 inspection contract for CHP/Manavite PRO project

Urbana City Council on April 22 authorized the director of administration to enter a contract with True Inspection Services LLC for inspection services on the CHP/Manavite PRO project for $83,372.12.

City staff said the inspection firm was selected through a qualifications-based selection process and that federal safety and STBG funds will cover most of the cost; a local match of $14,751.02 will be charged to the capital improvement fund and is included in the 2025 budget. "Your inspection services was chosen after a qualification based selection process," a city staff member said during the meeting.

City staff said two firms responded to the city's request; True Inspection Services was selected and cost negotiations followed. Staff added the firm is expected to attend the pre-construction meeting next week. "We have a pre con for this project next week, so our goal is to have our inspection firm at the pre construction room," a staff member said.

Council voted to approve the contract authorization by roll call; the speaking record shows the item passed unanimously in council roll call. The item also passed an internal board review earlier in the day by a 3–0 vote, recorded in the meeting packet: "Passed by board and drove by a vote of 3 to 0," a packet reading noted.

No changes to the scope or additional conditions were recorded during the council discussion. The contract authority granted on April 22 allows the director of administration to finalize the agreement and schedule the inspection firm to start work consistent with the project pre-construction timeline.

City staff indicated funding sources and the local match were previously identified in the packet; no further budget amendments were proposed at the time of passage.
