Safety Director Eveland told council that Wilmington police participated in an undercover buy operation coordinated with the county sheriff's office and the Ohio Department of Liquor Control that produced four citations for underage sales at local businesses.
Eveland also said the department recently held a police memorial and that wreaths were placed at memorial locations. He announced the city will reinstitute a summer bike patrol; Chief Foster said two officers completed bike-school training and have begun daytime patrols on the city bike path and in Marlena Park, and that citizens responded positively.
Council members and members of the public attending the meeting expressed support for reinstating bike patrols as part of community-policing efforts.
