Police and fire host public-safety open house May 17 in South Lyon

The South Lyon Police Department and Fire Department will host a public-safety open house on May 17 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., city staff announced during the May 12 City Council meeting.
The event will include station tours, vehicle displays (fire trucks and police cars), an active burn trailer, an extrication demonstration, a drone demonstration (weather permitting), goodie bags and a scavenger-hunt activity for children. Organizers asked attendees to bring nonperishable food and canned goods; the departments will collect donations for Active Faith and aim to “fill up both of our trucks,” Police Chief Baki said.
Chief Baki also announced personnel updates: Cadet Osborne is scheduled to graduate from the Oakland Police Academy on the 30th and will enter the field-training officer (FTO) program; another officer will be sworn in and move into operations; three cadets have started training at Washtenaw and staff reported positive early feedback.
Chief Baki thanked the South Lyon Hotel for donating pizzas for the event and encouraged families to attend.
