Betty A. Varner, president of the Soda Ellsworth Block Association, used public comment to tell Detroit residents about the Michigan Home Energy Rebates Program and urged eligible homeowners to apply.
“Michigan state of Michigan has received over $2,000,000 for a program,” Varner said and provided a local phone number for more information. She said the program helps make older homes more energy efficient through measures such as electrical work, window replacement, washers and dryers, furnaces and water heaters. Varner said the program is income-based and that one application will determine eligibility for two parts of the program; she cited an example eligibility threshold of up to $52,000 annually for a single person.
Varner said the program kicked off last month and that the state is seeking licensed contractors—she described a backlog of applicants waiting because contractors are in short supply. She directed listeners to the Michigan Home Energy Rebates Program webpage and provided a phone number: (313) 598-2850.
This announcement was delivered during the meeting’s public comment period; the council did not take a formal action on the item during the session.
