The Parsippany-Troy Hills Board of Adjustment on April 23 granted a variance to Lonnie and Paula Kratz to construct a small elevated deck with stairs off new sliding doors and to legalize an existing ground-level deck at 15 Colonial Terrace (Application 24:74).
The applicants said they modified interior circulation as part of a kitchen renovation and need an elevated exit at the new sliding doors; the proposed new deck will be about 3 to 3.5 feet above grade with stairs down to the existing yard. The applicants also sought to legalize an existing ground-level deck that predated their 1999 purchase.
Board members described the lot coverage variance as de minimis and one member said they would vote in favor. The board framed and seconded a resolution to grant the requested relief; a roll-call recorded approvals from Berkowitz, DeCroce, Muscarella, Petty, Quinn, Reddy, Willans and Chairwoman Gragnani and the chair announced the application approved. The clerk said a written resolution will be issued at the next meeting and the applicants do not need to attend that hearing unless they choose to do so.
