Airport director gets approval for vending concession and expanded design work on terminal expansion

Vending concession: The board authorized the airport director to sign a concession agreement with Project Rental LLC (DBA Vacationland Vendors), the incumbent operator, for the airport’s drink and snack vending machines. The contract continues the operator’s 25% gross‑revenue concession share and requires improved hot‑beverage machines in secure and nonsecure areas after the vendor reported sourcing problems earlier in the winter.
Terminal design amendment: Commissioners also approved an amendment to Wolpert task order number 2 in an amount not to exceed $111,721. The amendment covers five scope elements requested by airport staff: (1) coordination and design review with the baggage‑handling subcontractor to ensure cart/tug access and operations inside a redesigned baggage makeup area; (2) a subcontractor review to check for potential snow‑drift and structural issues where new construction meets the existing terminal; (3) preliminary geothermal test‑field design; (4) administration of a drilling subcontract to perform bore testing for geothermal; and (5) additional review to ensure future TSA equipment and scanners can be accommodated without redesign.
Why it matters: The additional engineering work is intended to reduce downstream re‑design costs, ensure safe winter performance where new and old roofs meet, and permit the airport to accept future federal TSA scanner funding if awarded. Airport staff said the terminal expansion remains slated to bid for construction in 2026 with operational baggage improvements expected for the 2027–28 winter season.
Action and outcome: Both items passed by unanimous voice vote. Commissioners expressed support for the design adjustments and for keeping local concession services operational during the terminal project.
Ending: Airport staff said vending contract continuity will avoid service interruptions and the Wolpert amendment will help the airport finalize construction documents this year.
