Landmark Condominiums resident tells committee short‑term rental ordinance merits action amid building problems

During the public‑comment portion of the May 13 meeting a longtime resident of the Landmark Condominiums urged the committee to press forward on the city’s short‑term rental (STR) ordinance and highlighted safety and management issues at his building.

“Hello. My name is George Wiedemann, lifetime resident of Atlanta and longtime resident of the Landmark Condominiums building downtown, which is a key item of the short term rental ordinance on our agenda for our meeting today,” Wiedemann said. He told the committee the STR ordinance was listed on the packet docket but “keeps getting held up for various reasons” and that city staff had advised him to continue submitting public comment.

Wiedemann described disruptions during a recent downtown convention weekend and said guests using short‑term rental platforms crowded building elevators and that package delivery and door‑entry procedures had been altered by the homeowners association. He reported repeated instances when the front desk was unattended and said confused delivery drivers and guests were delayed. Wiedemann also described personal financial strain related to caregiving responsibilities and urged the committee to move the STR ordinance forward.

The committee did not act on the STR ordinance during the meeting; public comment noted the ordinance remains on the packet docket for future council consideration.
