Sheridan County commissioners on May 6 appointed County Engineer Ken Mueller as viewer for three vacation proceedings: Fifteenth Street between the east side of Elm Avenue and the east side of Mackenzie Avenue (alley between Block 64 and Block 65 in Downers Addition); Fourteenth Street between Highland Avenue and Holmes Avenue (between Block 51 and Block 52 in Downers Addition); and a portion of Rapid Creek Road in Section 6, Township 54 North, Range 85 West.
Ken Mueller explained the viewer appointments are part of the statutory process to examine proposed vacations. For the Rapid Creek Road portion, Mueller said the county does not maintain the upper portion in question, which now serves a single resident; county crews have occasionally bladed the ruts but do not perform routine maintenance on that segment.
A commissioner disclosed that an applicant, Mr. Reinke, had approached them to request support before the item appeared on the packet. Commissioners approved appointments by voice vote and did not record roll-call tallies in the meeting record. The board also performed the same appointment procedure for the two Downers Addition street vacations.
No further decisions on the vacations were recorded; the appointments authorize the county engineer to act as the viewer and take the next procedural steps required under county process and statute.
