Council authorizes change order for Fairmont Park lake dredging to allow suction dredging

The City Council authorized a contract change order April 22 to allow the Fairmont Park lake dredging contractor to resume suction dredging after a temporary change to excavation methods required by California Fish and Wildlife, city staff said.
Pamela Galera, director of Parks and Community Services, told the council that the contractor had removed roughly 10,000 cubic yards of material using the alternate method and that staff recently received notice permitting the contractor to return to suction dredging. Galera said it is important to complete the dredging before summer events — including the regatta and pedal‑boat operations — and to avoid the additional expense and delay that would result if the contractor demobilized and later remobilized.
Public comment on the change order was not requested and staff reported no callers on the item. The council voted unanimously to approve the change order and authorize the city manager to execute the necessary documents.
Staff will direct contract administration to coordinate schedule and monitoring to complete the work and to report any material schedule or cost changes back to council.
