The House Committee on Behavioral Health and Health Care voted May 20 to send Senate Bill 1161A to the House floor with a "do pass" recommendation.
Committee staff said the bill, sponsored by Senator Patterson, directs the Oregon Health Authority to issue licenses for the operation of Oregon transport vehicles, sets criteria for an Oregon procurement organization to obtain a license, establishes standards for drivers, and grants privileges to those transport vehicles, including the use of lights and sirens. Staff also said the bill makes changes to traffic code to account for the additional emergency response vehicles.
Committee members recorded no substantive amendments during the work session and the chair announced the bill is on its way to the floor. Several members expressed general support; one member noted mixed feelings about floor activity that day but did not place reservations on SB 1161A. The motion to move the bill to the floor passed on a roll call.
