Committee advances bill extending Oregon Sunshine Committee review and shifting reporting to judiciary committees

The House Committee on Judiciary on May 15 advanced Senate Bill 890 to the floor with a due‑pass recommendation after a brief staff overview.
A staff presenter described the measure: "Senate Bill 890 extends the time by 5 years in which the Oregon Sunshine Committee must complete a review of all existing exemptions to public records laws. It also changes the recipient of the Oregon Sunshine Committee's reports designating that biennial reports be made to and be reviewed by the committees or interim committees on judiciary instead of the public records subcommittee of the legislative council committee." Staff said the measure has no fiscal or revenue impact and that it passed the Senate with unanimous support.
A committee member moved the bill to the floor with a due‑pass recommendation; the clerk called the roll and the motion passed. The committee assigned a floor carrier for the bill and closed the work session.
