The Select Board on May 5 discussed the composition and next steps for the town’s Land Use Working Group, agreeing to add a Planning Board representative and to increase the number of at-large members from one to two.
Mary (Select Board chair) told the board she had requested committee nominations and had received nominees from several town committees, including the Public Works Commission (Sven Weber), MCI advisory board (Scott Bates), the 2229 Main Street task force (Paul Bohm), Concord Municipal Affordable Housing Trust (Keith Bergman), Economic Vitality Committee (Mark Martinez) and Recreation Commission (Phil Griffiths). The School Committee asked to delay naming a representative until mid-June to seat its new members after elections.
Board members flagged that the Planning Board had been inadvertently omitted and that the working group should include a Planning Board representative to ensure necessary land-use expertise. The board agreed to increase the group from nine to 11 members: the committee nominees, two at-large members, a select board liaison and a Planning Board designee.
Select Board members said they would collect and circulate volunteer cards for at-large candidates, interview applicants in a divided process and return with a recommendation at next week’s meeting. Several members cautioned against placing two voting Select Board members on the working group, but some supported appointing a select board designee with relevant expertise. The board also discussed logistics including quorum implications and the likely use of subcommittees to handle reading-heavy initial work.
The board directed staff to collect all volunteer forms and circulate them to members, and to reach out to the Planning Board for a nominee; the board expects to finalize appointments at a future meeting.
