Council hears timeline and fundraising plan for Trenton Veterans Memorial

City Manager Nichols updated the Trenton City Council on May 1 about progress on the proposed Trenton Veterans Memorial and a fundraising process the city is coordinating with Dodds Memorial and the Middletown Community Foundation.
Nichols said staff have been working with a representative from Dodd's Memorial and have updated a draft fundraising brochure. He said the city intends to use the Middletown Community Foundation as the donation-processing entity: donors could give online or make checks payable to the Middletown Community Foundation with instructions for the Trenton Veterans Memorial. Nichols said a bench could be sponsored for $20,000 and that a sponsorship/contact form would collect donor contact information and engraving text.
Staff described next steps: finalize brochure language with the foundation, present the brochure and website process to the parks board and council, and, if Community Park is selected as the site, erect a sign reading “Future site, Trenton Veterans Memorial” to begin public fundraising. Nichols said Dodds is working on quotes for fabrication and installation and that those cost estimates are in process.
No formal funding requests or contract awards were considered at the May 1 work session; staff said they will return with the brochure, web portal and cost quotes for council consideration.
