City manager briefs council on ODOT cooperation for paving boundary and future EV-charger project

City Manager Nichols told the Trenton City Council on May 1 that the Ohio Department of Transportation’s 2025 paving project will extend to Trenton’s western limits on State Route 73 and that ODOT requested a project-cooperation ordinance.
Nichols said the paving work is to the boundary line and that some maintenance-of-traffic flagging could extend into the city limits; staff described the requested ordinance as a standard intergovernmental cooperation to allow coordination but said no ODOT paving within city limits is scheduled for 2025 beyond boundary work. Nichols also described a local public agency agreement with ODOT tied to an electric-vehicle charger project funded with a grant (referred to in the meeting as OPI grant funding) and said the city will serve as project lead once the agreement is signed and the project proceeds in 2026.
Nichols clarified that while ODOT initially proposed to remain the point person, after the agreement is executed the city of Trenton will be the project lead and will carry the primary responsibilities for implementation and coordination with ODOT.
No vote occurred at the work session; Nichols noted council has the legislation on the agenda and explained the agreements and scheduling to guide any subsequent formal action.
