Brecksville City Council approved two expenditures to support the 2025 Brecksville Home Days celebration after the Finance Committee vetted vendor quotes.
Monica Barkowitz, Purchasing Director, told the committee two requests for quotes were issued — one for production and one for tables, chairs, tents and a dance deck — and the low quotes in each category came from vendors used last year. Barkowitz said the procurement followed the city’s blanket purchase order process and that these particular expenditures exceeded the council-level purchase limit, prompting committee review.
Chairperson Beth Savage moved the committee recommendations to council. Council approved $11,500 to Lyrticle/Lyrtikol Productions for production services (motion passed 7-0) and $10,054.48 to EventSource for tables, chairs, tents and a dance deck (motion passed with six ayes and one abstention). A council member disclosed a conflict of interest on the EventSource item and asked whether it was possible to vote separately on the two vendors under the same blanket PO; staff confirmed they were separate vendors and separate votes were allowed.
Why it matters: Home Days is a major community event that requires coordination of production and event infrastructure. Staff said both vendors are familiar with the city’s setup and offered the lowest quotes for their services.
Council recorded one abstention on the EventSource vote; both expenditures were otherwise approved.
