Council approves 2025 community grant allocations and arts programming grants; abstentions recorded on arts vote

City Council on March 17 approved the city’s 2025 community grant program awards and a $5,000 community arts programming grant round administered by the McConnell Arts Center.
Ryan Cooper, who served on this year’s review committee, summarized that the committee reviewed 14 applications requesting $58,100 and recommended awards that fit the city’s $42,000 operating budget allocation. The committee used criteria set by council that prioritized basic human necessities and mental health services and then proposals that improve the Worthington community.
Cooper told council the committee included council members and community representatives and that award recommendations and summaries were included in the council packet. Council voted to adopt the resolution approving the community grant awards.
Separately, the McConnell Arts Center recommended seven organizations for arts programming funding under the city’s $5,000 arts grant program; council approved those recommendations. One council member disclosed an affiliation with High Road Gallery and said she would abstain from that vote. In the arts resolution voice vote, council recorded two abstentions; staff noted the motion passed and the resolution was adopted.
Council members thanked committee volunteers and said they looked forward to reports from grant recipients on how funds are used and outcomes achieved.
