District officials tell parents to use Nix portal and IEP meetings for progress updates
Summary
District 28 administrators said the Nix account is the primary portal for evaluation and progress information, that progress monitoring should be issued on the same cycle as report cards, and that families can request meetings when they need updates.

District 28 special-education officials told parents Tuesday that the Nix portal and annual IEP meetings are the primary routes to obtain evaluation results and progress monitoring for students with IEPs.
Jennifer Lozano Luna, CPSC 3 chairperson, said CPSC administrators ensure families receive evaluation packets from preschool assessment teams and contracted multidisciplinary evaluation agencies (MDEs). “They’re the ones who are gonna ensure also that the families receive the evaluation packet,” Lozano Luna said.
Andy Corso advised parents in community schools to check three things for communication: the Nix account, the annual IEP meeting and regular progress monitoring. “Number 1 is always your Nix account,” Corso said. “Every time a student without a disability gets a report card, then at the same cycle, you should be getting a progress update on the IEP goals.”
District staff said progress notes tied to IEP goals are typically reviewed at annual meetings; ongoing progress at the school level is provided by the school and may vary between public and nonpublic (CSC/CPSC) placements. CPSC administrators and central parent advocates pointed parents to online handbooks, the schools.nyc.gov site and central parent-advocate help for questions and workshops.
Parents who need assistance were invited to contact Johanna Rodriguez, the central parent advocate, who said she responds to the special education inbox and can provide parent workshops on request. “If it’s something that you want, that is something I offer,” Rodriguez said.
District staff posted resource links in the meeting chat and said materials and recordings would be saved on the council website for families to review later.
