Donor-funded kennel renovation near completion; remaining balance disputed in council discussion

Nancy Brown, a donor and resident, thanked Mayor Kumar, city staff and the service department at the Bay Village council meeting for a ribbon-cutting and the completion of the donor-funded kennel renovation project.

Brown said the original $50,000 donation went into the city checking account and that she had requested public records to clarify how the funds were handled. "The $50,000 that we donated in a little bit over a year ago went into the city checking account and got no interest," Brown said, and she asked about the balance of funds remaining for kennel items.

Finance Director Jim Milton said the kennel renovation was set up as a restricted subaccount in the city's endowment/trust fund. "We had about $42,000 was spent, and there's a little over $7,000 remaining," Milton said during the meeting. Brown and another donor…
