The Hopkinton School Committee voted unanimously May 15 to extend the district’s existing in-district special education transportation contract with Bridal Right for one year, citing continuity for students and families.
Abby, a district staff member presenting the item, said the extension was written into the existing contract and that Bridal Right had committed to meet the district’s needs next year while holding rates steady. “Given their commitment to our students, their assurance that they can meet our needs for next year, and their rates being held steady year over year, the recommendation would be to activate this extension for 1 year,” Abby said.
Nut graf: The one-year extension preserves stability for families who rely on special-education van routes and gives the district additional time to evaluate the regional transportation market before negotiating a longer contract.
Details: The committee discussed no renegotiation of terms as part of the extension; the goal is continuity and time to study the “larger transportation environment in Massachusetts” ahead of future contracting. Kyla moved approval; Susan seconded. The committee recorded a roll-call vote (Kyla, Susan, Ami and Chris) and approved the extension unanimously.
Ending: The committee expressed its thanks to Bridal Right for service to students and acknowledged the staff member presenting the recommendation. No further action was requested at this meeting.
