During council debate one member proposed amending the radius from one‑half mile to one‑quarter mile to give more development flexibility; that amendment was not adopted. Supporters said new automated car washes tend to be low‑revenue, are “largely mechanically operated,” and are harder to repurpose, and they raised environmental concerns tied to wash runoff and site remediation. Opponents said a smaller radius would give more room for new development and pointed to committee maps that could inform a narrower boundary.
Ordinance 70‑2025 will be entered into the city code as drafted. Committee materials and maps referenced in discussion remain available through the Planning and Zoning office; councilmembers said the matter could be revisited if there is appetite for a different radius.
