The mayor told the Board of Mayor and Aldermen that he plans to present a slate of candidates next month to reconstitute the Ripley Power and Light board, saying the city intends to establish a new board “as soon as practical” under the governing statute and that the board would be set up in July if the timeline proceeds as described.
At the same meeting, the Ripley Power and Light FY2025-26 budget—previously presented and approved by the power board earlier that evening—was presented to the city board; the city board accepted the budget presentation with no further questions recorded.
The mayor characterized the reconstitution as forming “a new board” and said “anybody can apply” to be considered. He indicated staff will return with the slate at the June meeting and expected a positive vote from the board at that time. He referenced a governing statute but did not cite a specific code section during the remarks.
No formal appointments were made at the meeting; the mayor’s comments established the schedule and intention to nominate replacements at the next regular meeting. The city board accepted the power utility’s budget as presented and did not modify it during the session.
