Senate Health and Human Services committee advances IVF codification, teledentistry, EMS designation, community health worker certification and water‑safety教育

The Georgia Senate Health and Human Services Committee advanced six bills on a range of public health topics on an agenda that included testimony from medical providers, patient advocates and industry representatives. The panel voted unanimously on each item by voice vote, forwarding them to the next stage of consideration.

The committee moved House Bill 428, which codifies the availability of in‑vitro fertilization (IVF) in state law, after several families and fertility‑care providers described personal experiences with infertility and with IVF treatment. Supporters said the bill places the procedure in state code without adopting additional regulatory details; some witnesses urged later regulation to address embryo‑creation limits and other ethical concerns.

The panel also advanced a teledentistry measure (listed as HB 567 in committee discussion) to authorize remote consultations by Georgia‑licensed dentists and hygienists and to let hygienists practice in certain out‑of‑office settings. The bill removes language that would have mandated insurer coverage and instructs the State Board of Dentistry to adopt rules on how teledentistry may be practiced.
