Ephrata ' Council members gave staff direction to pursue options to place a large letter "E" on the city water tank and asked staff to return with cost estimates and installation options.
A city staff member reported they had researched vinyl decals and said one sample 24-foot-tall decal would cost "about close to $5,000 per each local," plus installation. Staff noted the project had a placeholder line item of $20,000 in the budget and suggested that two decals might be possible within that amount depending on final quotes.
Council members favored a vinyl decal over painting because vinyl is less expensive and can be removed or replaced later. One member said the decal would not be a permanent replacement for the city's branding work but would be a recognizable local landmark visible from outside town.
Council directed staff to obtain final proposals and pricing for vinyl and painted options and to return with a recommendation. Staff will seek estimates for production and installation and report back to the council.
