Council says jail-site annexation nearly complete; future building permits will route through city

Ephrata City Council heard a committee update saying the property for the planned jail has been annexed and that building permits for the project will come through the city once state documentation is returned.
Council member Ron reported that the annexation has been completed administratively though the city had not yet received the signed document from the State Office of Financial Management. "We don't have the actual document back from the state office of financial management yet, but, they have agreed that we have everything they need," Ron said. He added that the project manager, Tom Gaines, had contacted construction firms and that permit routing and project processes were being updated.
Ron said the county short plat for the site has been approved but not yet finalized; that step may require additional city review. He described the site as approximately 89 acres and said it carries a public facilities designation that allows a range of government-supporting uses.
Council scheduled an executive session later in the meeting to discuss site selection or acquisition of real estate; no formal action on property acquisition was taken in open session.
