Yakima council approves broad consent package and confirms new board and commission appointments

The Yakima City Council unanimously approved a multi-item consent agenda on May 6 that bundled routine administrative resolutions and contracts into a single vote.
Clerk staff read items on the consent agenda that covered minutes approval, the city’s first-quarter financial report, a hearing date for amendments to the six-year transportation improvement program, claims and bylaws amendments for the planning commission. The council approved contracts and resolutions including a contract amendment with Infosend Inc. for bulk printing and mailing services; agreements with Ascent Foundation and Moore LLC for expanding water and wastewater access (project AC2570/SC2605); a sole-source purchase of digester mixer motors and gearboxes from Whitney Equipment Company for the wastewater division; Hubert Construction Inc. for the South 70 Second Avenue and Washington Roundabout improvements (2517); and agreements for airport terminal upgrades and construction administration services with JUB Engineers.
The council also approved a memorandum of understanding with the Seattle Police Department to receive reimbursement funding for forensic cell-phone tools and a facility-use agreement with Kittitas County for police vehicle training at Bowers Field. A dispatch communications services contract with the City of Toppenish Police Department was authorized as well.
Earlier in the meeting the council adopted committee nominations recommended by the council nominating committee. Councilman Danny Herrera reported committee selections; the council appointed Arisha Cosby (Capitol Theater representative), Gary O’Hamm (Larson Gallery representative), Sylvia Marsau and Jacob Butler (community representatives) to the Arts Commission; Kenneth Watt to the Parks and Recreation Commission youth seat; and Eliza Mencia to the Housing Authority. Councilwoman Decio moved to adopt the nominating committee recommendations, Deputy Mayor Brown seconded the motion, and the council approved the appointments by roll-call vote, 7–0.
All consent-agenda resolutions were approved on a 7–0 roll-call vote.
Ending: The items adopt routine project contracts and make personnel appointments without further public discussion; staff will proceed with contract execution and appointment onboarding as authorized by the council vote.
