NRCS and FSA update: conservation program applications, compliance checks and ECAP payments

Sawyer Schmidt of the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) and a local FSA representative updated the committee on conservation program workload and emergency assistance.
Sawyer said NRCS has conducted site visits for all 30 Conservation Stewardship Program (CSP) applications received this calendar year and noted a Drumlin Moraine local work group meeting scheduled for June 12 to solicit landowner input about practice priorities. He also said NRCS will begin random compliance checks for highly erodible land and wetland, with about 40 tracts randomly selected for inspection after planting.
An FSA representative said ARC‑PLC sign-up is complete and late-file runs through Sept. 30. The Emergency Conservation Assistance Program (ECAP) approved in December is active; staff reported roughly 600 producers signed up in the county and about $6,500,000 has been distributed to Dodge County producers under the program so far. The ECAP signup period runs through Aug. 15, staff said.
