South Plainfield staff report progress on senior center roof, municipal upgrades and roadwork; borough applies for CDBG vestibule

Borough staff reported progress on several municipal infrastructure projects and grant applications Monday night.

Mister Miller (staff member) said the new roof on the South Plainfield Senior Center is nearly complete with only minor punch-list items remaining. Staff also said they have submitted invoices and received reimbursement for over 90% of that project so far.

The municipal building roof has been put out to bid, and Burrell Hall lighting will be upgraded to LED, Miller said. Sports-field lighting for baseball, football and soccer fields is underway; the borough plans paving work on Kenneth and associated parking lots, and preconstruction for a South Plainfield Avenue road project should begin within a week or two, Miller said.

Mister Cohen (staff member) told the council the borough filed a 2025 CDBG application for a new vestibule and that the proposed front entrance will be handicap accessible if funded. Cohen also said the borough expects a DCA recreation grant to support the senior center parking lot, sidewalks and ADA ramps; final budget adoption is pending state budget-examination comments.
