Resident urges one-way on Putnam between Banta and Park; mayor asks police to review

Joseph Sclera of 3350 Banta Road asked the South Plainfield Mayor and Council on March 17 to make the segment of Putnam Avenue between Banta Road and Park Avenue a one-way outbound street.
Sclera said vehicles are speeding, driving onto lawns and creating hazardous conditions when turning from the nearby shopping center. "They're just driving up on their lawns. Patty's almost getting into accidents, backing out of their driveway," he said, describing neighbors' concerns about the incline and curve in the roadway.
Mayor Matthew Pinish addressed the request during the public-comment portion and asked the police department to have traffic safety staff follow up. "Chief, you guys wanna have traffic safety look at [it]? We'll follow up with you. I'll get your phone number and we'll reach out," he said.
The council did not take formal action at the meeting; the mayor indicated staff would follow up with the resident for further review.
