The City of Perry City Council on May 13 held a public hearing and on final reading adopted amendments to the Perry Municipal Police Officers Retirement Trust Fund, restating and amending provisions established originally by ordinance No. 881.
The ordinance as read at the meeting amends sections on contributions, benefit amounts and eligibility, disability, vesting, the deferred retirement option plan (DROP), and reemployment after retirement. City staff and representatives of the pension board were present and the council received no substantive questions from the public at the hearing.
Why it matters: changes to the municipal police retirement plan affect benefit calculations, eligibility rules and reemployment provisions for sworn officers covered by the plan; the ordinance will be codified and older conflicting ordinances will be repealed per the adopted language.
Council action: the council conducted the final reading and approved the ordinance by roll call; the meeting record shows unanimous affirmative votes from council members present. Staff confirmed that “nothing has changed since last week” and the council moved forward with final adoption.
Next steps: the ordinance provides for codification and an effective date as stated in the adopted text; staff will coordinate with the pension board and the city’s administrative offices to implement the amended provisions and update plan documentation.
