Pueblo County OKs $33,259 reduction to SRDA elderly-transport contract, reallocates funds to legal services and meal providers

Pueblo County commissioners on April 16 approved an amendment to a contractor agreement under Older Americans Act funding that reduces Services Region 9 Development Authority’s (SRDA) award by $33,259 because SRDA reported it could not expend the funds before fiscal year end.
Heather Cornell, program administrator for community programs in the county Department of Human Services, told commissioners SRDA and Pueblo County Area Agency on Aging (Pueblo AAA) discussed the shortfall and agreed the award should be redistributed to other local providers that can spend the funds by year-end. Cornell said $10,000 will be redistributed to Colorado Legal Services and the remaining approximately $23,259 will be offered to other providers; she said Project Angel Heart has capacity to increase home-delivered meals with additional funds.
Cornell said the funds are state dollars distributed under the Older Americans Act and that the county prefers to spend the full allocation to serve local seniors. Commissioners asked whether the redistributed dollars must be spent by the end of the fiscal year; staff confirmed that is the case.
The board voted to approve the amendment. Commissioners said they supported using the funds for legal services and home-delivered meals where providers can absorb the amount this year.
