Residents and commissioners discuss reviving countywide cleanup and brush/slash program

During public comment at the March 18 meeting, resident Bob Castle (identified as mayor of the Town of Oma—self-identified) asked the board whether plans for a countywide cleanup this summer were progressing so the town of Alma could coordinate local efforts.
County Manager Lucas Myers said staff are holding further discussions with potential partners, including CUSP (Coalition for the Upper South Platte) and other local entities. Myers said there has been interest from outside partners about contributing funds toward a brush-and-slash shipping program but that no commitments have been received and staff need additional information before presenting a formal proposal to the board.
Speakers from Alma and Fairplay described local cleanup plans: Alma may schedule collection in June and Fairplay historically schedules a cleanup in early June (one speaker referenced a June 6–8 cleanup). Commissioners noted that Park County previously ran countywide cleanup days but that budget constraints ended the program; they expressed interest in coordinating countywide efforts, including electronics recycling and slash grinding via CUSP’s site at the county dump, but said more planning and funding work is required. No formal action was taken.
