County approves consent items including special-event permit for Ridgeway Area Trails race and a setback variance

The Ouray County Board of County Commissioners approved several routine consent items May 6 and took two specific actions during general business: authorizing a special-event permit for the Ridgeway Area Trails (RAT) race and adopting a variance for a setback reduction on County Road 23.

Consent agenda: the board approved expenditures and an EMS standby services contract template after a brief review. Commissioners approved corrected minutes after a minor footer date change and approved the consent pack items b1a–c with one minutes item pulled to correct a typographical footer date.

Special event permit: commissioners approved and authorized the chair’s signature on the special-event permit and agreement for the Ridgeway Area Trails RAT race. Staff and commissioners said the event had worked well in prior years and that the 2025 event includes limited additional county-road use in places; the permit passed unanimously.

Variance: as the Board of Adjustments, commissioners adopted Resolution 2025-020 approving a variance from the 50-foot setback in the Valley zone to construct an outbuilding at 3926 County Road 23. The board noted the application had been approved at a prior meeting and the resolution carried unanimously.

Why it matters: the special-event permit clears a recurring community trail race to proceed under county conditions; the variance resolves a land-use setback for a private outbuilding and finalizes the Board of Adjustments’ earlier approval.
