The Oshkosh Transportation Committee on May 13 voted to recommend extending the no-parking zone on the south side of Sixth Avenue near Oregon Street by 50 feet to accommodate MRI trailers and service trucks accessing the new hospital.
Staff explained the request is tied to the new hospital’s driveway closures; MRI trucks use the remaining driveway to reach Oregon Street and need additional clearance to execute a left turn onto the truck route. The committee unanimously approved forwarding the restriction to the Common Council.
A staff member said the extension is intended to be permanent because the hospital access pattern will continue after construction. “It’s permanent,” the staff member said, adding that field supervisors had attempted to contact property owners but the city must secure clearance to maintain truck access.
Committee members confirmed the extension only affects one residence’s driveway area and noted that the houses on the block appeared to have deep driveways that would retain off-street parking options. The favorable recommendation will proceed to the Common Council for the standard two-reading ordinance process.
