Senator Johnson presented House Bill 1193, saying the measure would "protect the personally identifying information of individuals who have filed a declaration of informal marriage in Texas." The bill would allow applicants to check a box to request that identifying information other than their name be redacted from online public records maintained by county clerks.
The sponsor said the change is intended to protect victims of dating violence, sexual assault or stalking. The committee opened public testimony and none was offered; the chair left the bill pending in committee.
