Bill would clarify school-enrollment rights for sole managing conservator, sponsor says

The dean of the Senate presented House Bill 2495, saying the measure "would clarify that a sole managing conservator has the exclusive right to choose to enroll the child in a school." The committee substitute, requested by the Texas Family Law Foundation, would add the right to section 151.001 of the Family Code and allow courts to assign that right in joint custody cases.
Colleen Kinsler, a board-certified family law attorney testifying for the Texas Family Law Foundation, said the change "will be a tremendous help for both sole managing conservators and joint managing conservators who now have more educational opportunities and decisions to make regarding their children's education." No opponents registered in the transcript and the bill remained pending.
The committee took no vote in the transcript.
