Boerne ISD trustees outline role and timeline as filing opens for two board seats

Board President Garrett Wilson led a board-candidate workshop explaining duties, time expectations and filing deadlines for prospective trustees.
Wilson said the board's role is governance, not administration, and listed primary duties as oversight, setting the budget, adopting local policy and hiring the superintendent. He estimated a time commitment of about 10 to 12 hours per month, including a typical four-hour meeting and preparation, committee work and attendance at district events.
Wilson reviewed candidate deadlines: filing opened Jan. 15, the last day to file is Feb. 14, the voter registration deadline is April 3, early voting runs April 22'April 29 and Election Day is May 3. He directed prospective candidates to the district filing officer, Miss Richardson, for forms and packets and noted campaign-treasurer disclosure requirements and public posting of campaign finance reports on the district website.
Wilson urged prospective candidates to review the annual board code of ethics, board operating procedures and school-finance materials provided by the district and recommended training such as the Texas Association of School Boards conferences, typically two days each and part of annual training requirements. Trustees took no formal action; the session was informational.
